It had been about a week since the announcement of the attacks and the SPECTRE group. Casey didn't know how to handle or deal with the information. She was surprised at how scared she really was about it all. To top it off she couldn't leave because she was glowing. Hell she was pretty much a walking light bulb now, with the full moon being tomorrow. The school had allowed her Mom to come visit her since she couldn't leave. Seeing her mom had eased some of Casey's anxiety. Still, Casey had avoided people at every opportunity because she was still trying to ease her own thoughts and keep herself calm.
The day after the big news was dropped Casey was tiredly browsing through random pages online when she found Dirty Laundry's blog and read about the Pikachu attack. She didn't know who the writer was actually talking about but the idea that someone would hurt another person, students that she saw and walked past everyday even, scared her more and added anger to that pile of emotion. It was later during this day that she heard rumors around the school about the Pikachu attack and picked up that Devyn, her friend, was the one who was hurt. Hearing that had Casey stopping in her tracks with her breath held as she tried to hear more, but to no avail. Casey had rushed to the nurse's office and stared through the window. She couldn't see Devyn from where she was and she was about to enter the office until she felt tears sliding down her cheek. While it made sense for her to cry, Casey got all shy and she didn't want Devyn to think anything was wrong, plus it looked like there might be visitors so she didn't go in. She rationalized it all. She'd go when it wasn't so busy and she wasn't so emotional. It was on her way back to her room that she saw a few students huddled in a group and as she was passing heard them talking about what happened to Devyn. She stopped, tapped one of the girls on the shoulder and asked if they knew who had done it. They stared at her critically for a minute before divulging that they'd heard that this girl named Zoe had been in the laundry room with Devyn at the time, plus she was in like lock down or something now.
Between trying to keep up with homework and classes, and getting through her nights, and finding the girl Zoe to get a look at her it took days. By that time Devyn was out of the infirmary and Casey felt horrible. What if Devyn thought she didn't care? That thought scared her into putting off checking in on her friend for a few more days. Now it'd been like a whole week and Casey sat on the edge of her bed, chewing her lower lip. She'd talked herself into going to Devyns room, it was just talking a few minutes.
'Time to go. Up. Up Casey.' "Stop being a chicken." she thought and mumbled to herself. Finally she stood and left her room. It didn't take long at all until Casey was standing in front of Devyn's door. She reached up her hand, closed in a fist, and knocked lightly. "Devyn?" she called out hesitantly. 'It'd figure if she wasn't actually here right now,' she thought sadly to herself, her arms now crossed against her stomach tightly.
