"I guess so. It seemed like a better fit for me than any of the other jobs at least,"Sorcha replied, slipping her hands back into her pockets as they strolled toward the dorms at an easy pace. "I wouldn't be any good as a teacher since I didn't go to college or get any degrees. I don't like the idea of sitting in a classroom and doing paperwork all the time either. Training kids sounded fun, but at the same time I'm nowhere near as useful as Guy is for that sort of thing. I could give the students something to hit, but that's about it," she continued, musing out loud. She hadn't put an excessive amount of thought into the career opportunities that the school offered, but she knew enough at a quick glance which positions probably wouldn't work out for her and which to avoid altogether without a second thought. "Security is mostly just walking around and making sure no one is causing problems, so it's a relatively easy job. Plus they let me work the night shift which agrees with my sleep schedule." She'd be a pretty useless security officer if she kept falling asleep halfway through her shift.
She watched the girl turn around to walk forward, just barely managing to keep her eyes at an appropriate level before Devyn spun back around to face her. Her sense of balance was enviable, or at least she assumed it would be for anyone that wasn't part feline. "Jealousy probably isn't the sort of reaction I'd get," she responded with a small chuckle. "Disapproving speculation and poking fun, maybe. I can only imagine how well it would go over with some of the younger kids here, too." Hormones could be a very troublesome thing.
The sudden flash of movement from the younger girl as she abruptly changed directions and rushed forward effectively caused Sorcha to come to a complete, surprised halt. Her hands jerked out of her pockets and made it about as high as her ribs, ready to catch the girl or defend herself or whatever else may be necessary. She couldn't use her claws in this form, but she kept her nails filed to fine points in the off chance that she needed a little extra edge in a confrontation. She didn't really think that Devyn would be doing anything violent, but she was reacting more on impulse and instinct.
Devyn had stopped barely inches from where Sorcha had, making it unnecessary for the shifter to have to interfere with her momentum. Her wide yellow eyes blinked in confusion and she leaned back before retreating a step as the younger girl's words began to register. "I, uh, I guess we are about the same," she fumbled, unsure of exactly how she should react to what had just happened.
