As Bell started her cliche'd talk about helping and this and that Piper couldn't help the resigned sigh that escaped. She appreciated everything Bell was talking about but it all felt so fake. Piper had heard it all before. She'd been taken in, swaddled and doted on for all of ten minutes before being cast aside again. It was the same old song and dance and while Piper appreciated the lengths Bell was willing to go to calm the girl's nerves for the night it did little to actually bring her comfort. Until Bell uttered those last few words.
'... we’ll collect the rest of your things and bring them here...bring them home.'
Piper's jaw dropped in shock. Her brow furrowed deeply and she slowly lifted her still tear streaked face up to Bell. The words echoed in Piper's mind and she searched Bell's gaze for any sign of their sincerity or fallacy. All she could do for a long while was stare at Bell and study the English teacher's brilliant blue eyes. There was nothing to be found but a kind, gentle affection in her face and it was nearly stunning. Piper swallowed hard and then slowly nodded. She brought the back of her hand up to wipe at the corners of her eyes and she sniffed. "Okay." She said, her voice cracking slightly. "I would like that."
