Ashley listened to Franck's words and nodded. They did bring her a great deal of comfort in spite of his reluctance to fully divulge the emotions Ellen felt when any conversation turned toward Ashley. Franck, as far as Ashley was aware, remained one of Ellen's most enduring friends over the years. It was amazing that he and Ashley hadn't met long before given how close they both were with Ellen. If anyone had a chance of understanding the complicated figure that was Ellen Banks, it was Franck. "Thanks." She said genuinely, a small smile touching her features. She didn't need Franck to tell her she was the exception that proved so many rules when it came to Ellen though she would have to admit it still made her feel better.
When Franck hinted at never having heard how Ashley and Ellen had met the dark haired woman's eyes lit up and she smiled widely. It was still the same subdued sort of smile she'd displayed during their so far brief conversation, but the mere memories were enough to bring out a softer, more pleasant side of Ashley. "When we were both in school, I would sneak out to the stables when no one was around to... escape, I guess." She offered a shrug and opted to leave it at that. "I didn't realize it at the time but one of the horses that had taken a liking to me was Neptune." She paused a moment to see if that meant anything to Franck and she let that sink in. Her head shook, though, before she continued. "I couldn't tell you what happened from there. She sort of... took me in." Ashley shrugged as if she wasn't all that sure how else to better describe it. "Three years later, here we are." It sounded like such a simple story even though Ashley knew better. She couldn't even begin to delve into the complicated nature of their relationship.
Ashley listened and then nodded. She knew Ellen was caught up in work and her own, personal demons more than anyone. It had been Ashley who was with Ellen at night when she got home, strung out and stressed from work. Ashley who sat with her in silence, simply allowing their closeness to help sooth the anxiety of the day. Ashley who would see to it that Ellen found her way to bed when she started nodding off at her desk. "That's fine." She said honestly, even if the idea of ladies being brought out with Ellen did sort of rub Ashley the wrong way. "But I want to go with you next time you take her out." The words came out far stronger than Ashley had intended and she almost recoiled in horror at how assertive they had been. "I mean..." She smiled sheepishly and seemed to withdraw into herself now. "I would like to."
