They were making a decent effort at carrying the thing. Nico did hate that he pretty well had to focus on not phasing through the damn thing but, well, that was just the lack of training he had. That was what he was here to work on. Well, that and getting an education. Devyn seemed to be more or less going along with it, and again, Nico couldn't help but feel like this was something that she probably did often enough.
Yep, seemed like she went through dummies. Though Nico actually found himself lightening slightly as she spoke about the animals and stuff like that. His expression went into one that was more sober, and he nodded slightly. "Stuff like that happens with people like us," he volunteered. There, sympathy, he did get that much. He'd phased through a few things and destroyed at least one computer himself. Seemed stupid to judge it.
So he kept moving, looking ahead. He glanced to Devyn every once in a while, mostly to make sure he was matching pace and that they were still headed in the right direction.

Devyn didn't fully understand just how hard it might have been for Nico to help her carry the dummy with his power. She figured that the whole phasing things was something that just happened at random and she assumed that he had a good level of control over it. That was only because he didn't make a big fuss about his power. When there was no real big hint that it was a problem, she didn't think that it was. So they were moving ahead, heading towards the dumpster to get rid of the evidence.
She still thought bury it would be a better idea because the person who took care of the dumpster would see the dummy in it and then it was not really getting rid of evidence. If it bothered her too much she knew she could always come back later, use her power, and bury the thing on the field or out in the woods. She was going to just stay silent then if he didn't speak up because she didn't really have anything to talk about. Plus there was that whole awkward vibe by how he was behaving that was also making Devyn think that socializing with this guy was not going to go anywhere.
Thankfully that feeling went away when the guy spoke up, relating to what she had said. Even if he had not done anything bad in his life, just the fact that he seemed to understand was enough to put Devyn at ease. "You’re a bad boy?" Devyn asked as she smirked a little. She didn't want to assume that he was the kind of guy that would do something bad earlier, but now he kind of hinted to it. It was not their fault that things just happened. At least for Devyn she knew she was not doing everything on purpose. “What’s the biggest thing you have gotten in trouble for?” Devyn then asked, not even waiting too long for him to answer her first question.

Well, that hadn't exactly been what Nico had meant or was referencing, though he supposed he could see why Devyn would make that connection. He gave her another look, then remained silent for several more steps. The silence mostly consisted of his attempting to figure out how precisely he should go about responding to this, and, well, he figured she'd figure out things eventually.
"Escaping my cell," he said flatly. It was the truth, strictly speaking. Though what had put him in the cell was probably objectively worse, and even that just involved being in the wrong place at the wrong time. That did seem to sum up his "bad boy" phase in its entirety, well, besides the handful of smaller crimes he actually did do.
Nico felt himself start to go this time, and managed a quick: "Watch out," before feeling the dummy phase straight through him, his end dropping to the ground and through his body.

There was silence then, making Devyn wonder if she said something wrong or if she had misunderstood what Nico had meant. The latter was highly possibly since Dev tended to miss certain things and that was why it was best to be direct with her. She was the kind of person who understood action better than she did words. So when people wanted to talk to her they either had to get physical or just come out and say what it was they wanted to say to her. She was about to switch the question around to see if that would help but he spoke up.
Her eyes widen a little bit, not thinking that breaking out of a cell was something that he would do. Yet, she didn’t know him so what he could have been capable of was pretty much anything. “Like jail cell? How long were you locked up and what for?” Devyn asked, unable to keep her curiosity down on the matter. Now she was trying to think what would be alright to reveal to him since while she had never been in actual jail, detention was like a lock up. She had also done damage to the school in the library a while ago.
There was also the whole killing several people, but they were SPECTRE and she had not been really scolded for such a thing. In fact no one had actually talked to her about what she had done on that day, not even Zoe. Perhaps that was for the best, because who wanted to ask a person how they felt or if they were haunted by the lives they took? It was too heavy of a topic. The watch out had Devyn reacting quick, not quick enough to grab his end as well, but she at least managed to keep a good hold on her end. “Man, your power is pretty cool but I’m guessing that this is something that occurs often?” Devyn asked. Now she was reconsidering his level of control over his power.
That just made her want to help him out even more but this was a power she was still trying to wrap her head around. “Does it hurt when it goes through you?” Devyn asked, a small level of concern in her voice as she moved to get a better hold of the dummy. She didn’t mind if she was going to have to end up carrying it the rest of the way.

Nico nodded at Devyn's repetition. Yes, jail cell. What other kind of cell could he possibly have been referencing? Especially one that would have resulted in his getting in trouble? He was sorely tempted to outright ask, but he held his tongue for the time being. Besides, there was that second question. "Locked up for a lot of reasons, and was there a while," which was an answer that hit the points of the question without actually providing any real information.
Which was enough while he dealt with the fact that he had a dummy literally going through him. He just stood still while it happened, eventually taking a step back as it finished doing its thing. he could still feel the sort of tingly feeling he got every time his body adjusted to the phase, but at least it wasn't particularly painful.
"Still working out the kinks," he said, glancing up at Devyn and nodding, "and no, it doesn't hurt. Doesn't hurt when stuff gets stuck in me either." He added a slight shrug, shaking out a foot, remembering how he'd had some pretty gnarly stuff stuck in it before. he took a deep breath, shook himself out, and then knelt down. His more solid fingers gripped the dummy, and soon enough he was upright again, nodding to Devyn and hoping that no one else saw.

"Really?" Devyn asked but it was more so something that just left her mouth as she thought about the possible details behind that. He had been locked up and it had been for a while, so that meant that it had to be for something serious. She was wondering how she should ask her next question, because she was going to have to ask. It was practically impossible for her to not ask the question, but it was not like he would have to give her too many details. Just enough to satisfy her curiosity or he was going to have to deal with her bringing it up until he made it clear he was not going to share said information.
"You kill a guy?" Devyn asked, that being pretty much the best way she saw to ask it. Trying to cover it up with sugar just seemed too difficult so Devyn went right to the point. If he said that he killed a guy then she would feel a little bit comfortable about telling him that she killed...she didn't know how many guys. Bad guys that were trying to kill her so it felt less wrong, but again she had to see what he said before she was certain what she could tell him. She waited for him to get his power under control before she moved to help him again with the dummy. The dumpster being a bit closer now once they got closer to the a few chairs that were set up.
"How long have you had your power? Wait, so if say a pipe phases through you and you go uh...solid, it stays there and you are fine?" Devyn asked, quickly followed up by another question. Now she was tempted to try all sorts of things with this guy’s body. There was also even more questions she wanted to ask but some of them were not really something you should ask someone when you were first meeting them.

Nico gave Devyn a tired look, again wondering who would possibly make up something about being in prison. Clearly people who had never been there before, and most of them weren't likely to look or sound like Nico when they actually made the claim. He didn't actually bother saying any of that, leaving it to his expression, which did say quite a bit.
The question that followed had him raising his brows, giving her another quick look. Should he answer that? Did he really have to? Nothing he'd said should have made her jump to that, unless it was his apparent skill in knowing how to hide a body. That could have just as easily come from watching too much television as anything else though. Nico just jerked his head in the direction they needed to go, taking a few more steps that way.
The next question, he had grown used to. He sighed, figuring that he should at least answer one. That would get her to focus on that instead of anything else: "Few years," was the first part, his eyes flicking to her, "but for the first few months I was still in lockup. Meant I learned a lot of bad habits," which was something his trainers had said so often that he'd grown tired of it. "Anything in me gets mixed with me. So it can poison me or something, make me feel like hell, but it doesn't hurt that much." He took a few more steps closer, more than ready to toss the dummy in the trash and get the hell out of there.

The was no response, there was a look that was enough of a response, but still no verbal communication which Devyn was getting used to with this guy. This also meant that the level of interaction she figured she could handle with him was also down. It was hard to talk to someone if they didn't really talk back. That and if everything you brought up to be a conversation just resulted in a look or a sigh. She didn't know if he had some hidden pheromone ability to communicate or if body language was his main way of communication but either way there was a communication barrier.
The question on if he killed a guy was mainly to figure out why he had been in prison and well if he had actually done it. Again Devyn didn't know if she could inform him what the worse she had done if she didn't know his level of tolerance or what have you. She ran her tongue along her teeth in the inside of her mouth as the silence between them continued. Dev just focused on getting the dummy tossed away and then going off to find some other place to smoke and leave this guy to whatever he was going to end up doing. She didn't mind being in someone’s company but she was a loner and if someone didn't seem to really want to be in her company she didn't see the point in sticking around.
The guy did at least end up answering her question about his power and how he had had it for a few years. It must have been one that was difficult to handle if he was still struggling keeping things from going through him. Devyn didn't say anything and just nodded her head and wondered about said bad habits while he was in lock up. The temptation to ask was there but because she figured she was just going to get a look she didn't say anything. "It's a pretty good defensive ability." Devyn spoke up, just as they got to the dumpster. She waited for him to look ready and would hoist up the dummy into the trashcan. Dusting any sand off of herself as she stepped back and fumbled around in her jacket for her pack of smokes.

Pretty good defensive ability? Nico let out a laugh at that. Yeah, he supposed it could be an awesome ability if he had any control over it. He figured that his behavior thus far had already demonstrated just how great he was at actually using his power though, so he wasn't going to elaborate on that.
Instead he just nodded as she got ready, then soon found himself hefting it up. The dummy slid into the trash can without too much noise, which definitely worked in their favor. Nico propped his elbows on the edge, peering over to look inside. He reached in to throw a few bits and to generally move the dummy around, not wanting it on top.
Movement to his side caught Nico's attention, and he saw Devyn patting herself down. He had to laugh at that. "Really?" he said, arching a brow, staring at her with some amusement. she'd just started a fire with it, and now she was figuring it was time for another smoke?

The guy was laughing and in Devyn's books that was a step in the right direction in terms of them socializing. She thought it was a pretty cool ability and perhaps now he was starting to think the same if he had not already thought that way. Devyn didn't know, she was still trying to figure the guy out and if there was a potential of a friendship or at least simple pals. He did help her put out a fire and get rid of the dummy, in her mind that was enough to buy the guy a drink or give him something that he desired.
Devyn had worked on looking for the pack of smokes she had on her, and just located them when she heard Nico laughing. "What? I have a hard time learning my lesson." Devyn admitted as she chuckled slightly. She pulled out one and placed it in between her lips, still offering the pack to Nico in case he changed his mind. "That and I were kind of addicted, broke the habit, but picked it up again." Devyn admitted as she now searched for her lighter. She was going to be a bit more careful this time around, because she did sort of learn her lesson.
"Thanks again for helping me out with all of this. I owe you." Devyn said, meaning it. She did want to pay the guy back; she always did when someone helped her out. It didn't matter how simple the task was, he still helped her out when she needed it, and in her books that was all that mattered.

Addicted. That was Nico's major problem with it, and why he hadn't gotten as into it as some people he knew was. Nico hadn't liked watching what all the addiction did to people around him. So many in his neighborhood had lost themselves to stuff like that. Nico knew it was there choice: they could do whatever the hell they wanted to themselves. But him? He wasn't going to get more into it than he had to.
He shrugged at her thanks, turning back to move around some more trash to better cover the dummy. "You'll pay me back somehow," he said. He supposed he should be commenting on how it didn't matter, that it was just what anyone would do. But he wasn't stupid: if he could get something out of it, could get someone to owe him a favor...
favors could be worth more than money, and Nico wasn't going to turn one down. He gave the dumpster one last look, nodded, and turned his attention fully back to Devyn, waiting to see if she had anything else to say, ask, or do.

Devyn had managed to find her lighter, playing with it a few times before she actually lit up her cigarette. She took a long drag off of it, holding it in and blowing it off in another direction so Nico did not have to deal with the smell. She did have a hard time dealing with it herself because of how sensitive her nose was, but the addiction tended to win out in the end. She promised herself this would be the last pack and she would work harder at trying to kick the habit again.
She really didn't want Vera spraying her down or chewing her out. Hell, with how Vera was Dev would not have been surprised if Vera actually physically beat her up if she heard about it. Not something to look forward to, even if it was slightly a turn on. Devyn refocused from that train of thought when Nico spoke up about how she would pay him back somehow. "Yup, just let me know what you need and I'll do my best to handle it." Devyn said, nodding her head a few times.
So long as it was not something that greatly outweighed what he had done for her or was out of her range of capabilities, she could do what he might end up asking. She took another drag off of her cigarette, seeing that Nico was still there but he didn't look like he was going to join her for smoking or anything like that. "Uh, if you want me to pay you back now or join me, I'm fine with that. If not I was just going to hang out and smoke." Devyn said. In other words, she was not really planning on doing anything exciting so if he wanted to leave he was free to.

So it sounded like Nico had earned a sort of general favor. he could definitely take advantage of that, though he didn't want to do so right now. Right now he just nodded, accepting the offer. He wanted to make that clear. Just as he wanted to make clear that he was testing to see if there was anything else he should be doing.
Apparently not.
Nico nodded, then raised a hand to give Devyn a farewell. He turned it into a point and a nod, indicating where he thought he'd last seen a teacher, adding a vocal "Faculty that way." Then it was one last nod and Nico headed off, hands in pocket, wondering just what he could or should do to get a favor out of a girl who sneaked off to smoke and set fire to a dummy.
