Serene was dizzy and lightheaded as the music stopped. She needed to leave before the next song started, before everyone was excited again. She looked at her watch and with an apologetic face (even though she wasn't feeling apologetic) said, "Sorry, It think I should go now, it's getting late." Which was partly true she supposed. She needed to be back by eleven and she supposed it was getting closer to that time.
"Sorry." her head was triumphant though. She had an excuse to leave finally. She had only meant to come for the music to try to blot out the emotions then this happened. This was already awful enough.
An apologetic look? A girl leaving? RJ gave her his best puppy eyes, figuring that she was probably just feeling flustered and all. "What's the matter, Cinderella? You're not gonna turn into a pumpkin in the next few minutes, are you?" he smiled at her. Okay, yeah, he clearly wanted her to stick around: she was cute and clearly flustered and he definitely wanted to make out, but he also wasn't going to chain her against her will.
"C'mon, you got to stick around for at least one drink. I don't have a number or anything, and you don't want me to follow your pumpkin home, do you?" and no, RJ wasn't quite aware of his messing up his own metaphors in there. He just smiled at her, though he made sure to give her some space, both physically and conversationally. Hey, if she wanted to bail, he could always find a more willing girl. She'd still be around, and he could wait if that's what it took.
Serene felt really bad now. He was giving her puppy dog eyes and that made her feel really guilty. Did he need to that? "Uh, no. It's not that, um." She said, her stutter returning again, "It's just that I go to this school nearby called Bellefonte and they have set times of when I need to be back and all." She wasn't exactly sure if this person went to bellefonte but if he had he must have never seen her because to the fact she normally was the person who went and hid in the Library right after classes.
"I'm sorry but I actually, um, really should, um, go." She backed away slowly, "Sorry."
"Hey, I go there too!" RJ said, grinning. He then let out a laugh. "And it's not like they're gonna be that strict about it. But hey," he winked and started backing up, "I'm not gonna chain you to the bar. Been awesome dancing to you, and I'm sure I'll see you around."
Besides, she was already backing up and as RJ figured earlier: it wasn't like he wouldn't be able to find more willing participants within range. He looked damn good after all, and he had the moves. He'd had fun with her, and he'd definitely keep an eye out, but it was just that.
RJ was already letting her slip from his mind as he sauntered toward the bar, though he did pause to look, watching her go, wondering if maybe he shouldn't have at least gotten a name...
Serene was glad the boy didn't stop her or anything but it felt really embarrassing that he went Bellefonte too. What if she saw him again? I mean, Serene liked him and all but she still felt a little embarrassed today. It wasn't her who was doing the dancing really. It was more the people around her. She really hoped nothing like this ever happened again. This idea was awful and now she had an awful headache.
As she walked out the door she looked back one last time and though: What am I doing? She saw that he was watching her as well. Flustered, she walked outside into the chilly February air towards Bellefonte.
