Jason never really heard of guy’s family either, as he thought about it. Then again, when he was just a student, it clearly was not a subject you’d talk with a teacher. And he returned only a few months ago and they turned out to have many other, more relevant, topics to talk about. For a second though he did wonder about his family before shrugging it off. Probably like most families. He would not nag him about it, unless he chose to press the matter further on his part.
Anyway, Jason didn't want to start on that subject. His mother’s power pretty much killed her when she started to have a calcium deficiency. And his father... yeah really best not to go there. When Guy talked again, Jason startled a bit, not understanding at first before he realized it was just another one of his jokes. He chuckled, shaking his head. Obviously the man knew what he meant by that and simply decided to have a bit more fun at his expense. He assumed he needed not to comment on that one. He was clearing not ‘beating’ people.
He laughed again as Guy suddenly wanted candy. “There are some in the waiting room but I don’t guarantee the kind of candy you’ll get,” he said before looking in his desk for some. Not that he had a stash of those kept around here but chocolate was always useful if you felt a little low on energy. “Aren’t you lucky,” he told Guy as he phrased out for him the reason why he was digging into the desk drawer. He tossed one on top of his desk in front of his friend. “And slave labor-free,” he commented.

"Well, now you're just sucking all the mystery out of my life, Dr. Campbell. No wonder the nurses aren't clambering all over you," said Guy. Nonetheless, he walked over to Jason, taking hold of the offered chocolate candy. Guy looked at it for a moment, moving it in his fingers before apparently deciding that it was worth eating. He was soon unwrapping it in an absent manner, looking over at Jason out of the corner of his eye.
"I am so adamantly against slave labor, you know," he agreed, nodding. "Oh, speaking of, I've drawn the lucky lot for detention, and I'm thinking that I'll have the students clean the arena. always works well, and the Academy certainly approves of slave labor. I'll send the inevitable causalities to you," as he finished speaking, Guy also finished unwrapping. He held it up for Jason to see the result, then took as large a bite as he could manage, chewing noisily.
"Why would a doctor have something as unhealthy as chocolate stashed away?" asked Guy, leaning over and taking a look. "You wouldn't happen to be worried about soul stealing creatures of any stripe, would you? What do they call them, ring wraiths? With their evil weaponry and all." He smiled and took another bite of the chocolate, obviously enjoying himself.

At this point, Jason was so used to hear Guy’s dry jokes that although he still found them funny, he was not laughing as much. Still, he bet even his friends would find it weird, the difference of behaviour with and without Guy around. He shrugged at his comment. “I’m a man of science. No mystery can be left unsolved around me,” he simply replied as he let Guy decide whether he wanted the candy bar or not.
Jason showed some interest though as Guy mentioned detention. Not that detention was anywhere near fun. He had been one of the lucky people who had been spared such torture. But he knew it would mean more interesting stories from his friend. And that was always interesting. He nodded at the mention of the arena. Jason never fought much either. But he often went there. What better place if you wanted to see if you could only heal a nosebleed and not the broken wrist? They sure liked when he was around to patch the guys up should it take a turn for the ugly. He had a tiny smile when he said the academy approved of slave labor. That sure would be how the students would consider the job to be like. “Sure, no problem. I thought you had people there about though, no? I got a call once from a nurse there. I figured you had your own healers,” he said. What was her name again? He couldn’t recall. Anyway, not like he minded. Guy could call him or send them to the clinic, he’d be fine. As long as they didn't expect him to fix everything that was not major.
Guy added some more, picking up on the chocolate. Jason smirked at his comment. “I’m afraid I will disappoint you with the answer. I always keep some in case I need a little boost. And you never know when someone with hypoglycemia might show up and need some sugar,” he said. Clearly not as amusing as Guy probably expected. But he bet he’d still be able to come up with something to reply to that.

"Well, there is a nurse," admitted Guy, "or possibly a school doctor. I'm never quite sure which she is. She's awfully distracting," he held his hands out to indicate a chest and then sighed, "though I suppose that is crude. I send enough students to her though; I'd like to balance it out, let all you healing sorts work equally for the greater good."
Guy sighed, then took another nibble of the chocolate. At least it tasted good; he had to leave that much to Jason: he selected good chocolate. Though being told that he would be disappointed by the answer did cause Guy's eyes to narrow a little. There was a hint of "just lie to me" or "I'm not going to like this" in those eyes, and Guy almost asked if this was some kind of medical chocolate. It tasted rather good for that, but Guy was willing to bet that science would come up with something that delightful. If not, they should be funding that research now.
No, instead Jason had to provide a completely legitimate, boring reason for the whole thing. Guy sighed, lowering the chocolate and giving Jason a withering look. "That is far too reasonable, Jason, and that is just totally unacceptable. You know what," he pointed with the chocolate, "I think I'm going to set you up with a woman as punishment. Yes, a blind date. I'm sure I can find someone relatively within your age range, and it will sooth my desire to be a matchmaker." he took another bite of the candy, pretty well finishing it off. He then grabbed one of the pub napkins, running his hands over it. "Perhaps that doctor; I believe she's single, if a little loose. Then again," he looked up at Jason, his eyebrows raised, "perhaps that would be a good thing."

Guy confirmed there was indeed someone. Not that it surprised Jason. Even in regular schools you could find one. She could easily spend just one or two days a week there, but there was someone. Bellefonte was special however and he assumed there were a few at all times. You never know what might happen, so many teenagers not only unable to control their powers but also to control themselves at all. His eyebrows lifted up as his friend found no better way to describe her other than distracting. “There must be a lot of ‘sick’ boys at the infirmary then,” he commented. Hey, those teenagers might think his younger days were a century ago but Jason could still remember it, and remember how foolish he might have acted around pretty girls, no matter their age. He chuckled when Guy maintained he might send him some anyway. “Sure, that’s what I’m here for anyway,” he said with a shrug.
He smiled, knowing Guy would not like his answer about the chocolate but saying it anyway. At some point, he was almost tempted to joke about hiding drug in it or stealing it out of whiny kids. But sadly Jason was a reasonable man who’d always give the logical, reasonable yet often boring answer. Yes he was the one, whenever you joke about a situation trying to explain it, who would give the right answer, when you obviously couldn’t care less.
However, when Guy came up with the idea of setting him on a blind date, Jason flinched and immediately regretted even talking to him. Oh no, not a blind date! Anything but that. Soothing his desire to be a matchmaker, my ass. No doubt Guy just wanted to have a bit of fun at his friend’s expense. Going after their horny nurse was also not in his plans. “No seriously, there’s no need for that,”he began to say even though something in him was just begging him to stop talking, knowing full well this would not change his mind. “Keep your distraction, I’m fine.”

"Fuck the teenagers," said Guy, looking almost offended, "I'm likely to come down with horrible problems at least on a weekly basis. At least I would if I were younger or she were a little older. I'm pretty sure I could be old enough to be her father," at this, Guy sighed. That was, as far as he was concerned, the major drawback of growing old. His dating pool shrank with each passing year. not that he wouldn't consider dating someone younger than him, and he was mostly joking about the idea of dating someone young enough to be his daughter: he'd never been that promiscuous, but still, he couldn't help but wince internally as he thought of his rapidly shrinking pool, especially as he wasn't getting younger nor did he fancy ever settling down.
He did seem to want to force that life upon Jason though, and the doctor's reactions weren't enough to dissuade Guy. He grinned ferociously as Jason protested, eventually reaching to crumple up his lunch leavings in as loud and obnoxious a manner as possible. "Ah, ah, ah, don't deny me my pleasures," he said, ending by clicking his tongue a few times. He tossed the various trash into the bag and then leaned over, finding a trash bin to place it all in. "I want to see you happy, Jason, that's all I'm asking for," said with very nearly a straight face, as if this wasn't some brilliant plan to torment Jason.
Guy hopped off the stool, dusting off bits of lunch. He technically had more time left, but he knew that Jason had more serious business to attend to. Besides, the longer he stayed, the more chance Jason had to try and talk him out of his attempted matchmaking, and that simply wouldn't do in the slightest.

Jason found it relatively amusing when Guy replied that even he would come by with strange bruises or disease just to get a good look at her. Yeah, teachers were not immune to a good-looking woman he supposed. “I had a teacher like that...” he recalled. She mustn’t be the dreams of every guy at Bellefonte anymore, if she was still teaching. Quick, simple math would tell anyone she should be around fifty now. Way too old for them, especially if there’s a sexy school doctor in sight.
Honestly, it was not as if Jason ran away from relationships. Seeing his father losing his mind slowly as he refused to give up on his wife did not leave a bitter taste in Jason’s mouth about marriage. He supposed one day he would marry, have a couple of kids, that sort of things. He also supposed that with each passing year, this dream might become harder and harder to achieve. Then again, it was not unknown to see men in their sixties, seventies and perhaps even above having children from their pinup wives. Of course, Jason didn't want to consider himself as one of those sugar daddies but that was serving his point on the fact he still had plenty of time to get that family.
Besides, Guy was not really thinking about love here, obviously, but more about a booty call, he was certain of it. And that, he’d rather be the only one dealing with. No seriously, it was kind of pathetic when your friends had to arrange for a girl to sleep with you. Next thing, Guy will hire a hooker to come by the clinic or something. He dared not reply to his friend as he said it was all to make him happy. Well, he did give Guy a look of disbelief. Happy, right...
Well, their little meeting was over, he supposed. They had not talked much of what Jason really wanted to discuss but he knew that could happen with Guy and frankly, it had been pleasant so he didn’t mind. “Alright, go if you decided to play it like that,” Jason finally said. There was nothing rude in his tone, he simply gave up on stopping that train. “You’ll have to tell me how this detention went next time.”

Oh Guy knew that Jason was reacting, or at least likely to be reacting, to his little proclamations. He knew enough to get a fairly decent read on the other man. And yes, there was a part of Guy who was doing this for himself, for the sheer enjoyment of tormenting Jason. Why not? Guy was getting up there in years, and tormenting the younger generation was a time honored tradition among the aging. Jason was at least respectful enough to play along with that.
Guy did have some concern though. He knew what doctors were like, and he knew what Jason was like. That combination could lead to a lonely life, and while Guy might have chosen something like that for himself, he didn't want to have anyone feel like they were forced into a similar situation. So yes, there was a hint of a booty call in there, but Guy was already going through the various women he knew of that were about Jason's age. There were at least a few that immediately came to mind, some of which were not overly sexual school nurses.
"I shall go on my terms,' said Guy, raising a finger to Jason. He knew there'd be no rudeness, and he didn't take offense to Jason's words either. He probably would've reacted the same way of his ex-trainer had tried to set him up. Come to to think of it, Guy was pretty sure that had actually happened. "And I'll make sure to tell you about the detention. Likely over drinks though. Now that I know there's no sexy times going on in this place, I'm decidedly less interested," Guy nodded, then waved to Jason. "Until later, Dr. Campbell. Keep up the good work," and then Guy would head out the door, thoughts of matchmaking and slutty nurses on the forefront of his mind.
