His reason? Olivia sighed.
"And your reason for going after him is that you're stupid? If he's bigger and stronger, then pissing him off makes you not only a jerk to me, but a total moron!" Then he spoke about control and her temper cooled off fast. Really fast. She just stood there for a moment, and then her facial expressions kind of died on her. Not exactly, but the light in her eyes kind of left.
"I know. I don't control a thing. I don't exactly hate you. But for some reason you've made me lose control, and that made me even angrier. Control is something I prize above all else."

“Oh, I see. So the big and strong morons have the right to torment those smaller than them, you have no problem, but when the smaller guys want some payback, they are the jerks. No offense, but you don’t look so queen bee to me. I wouldn’t put you with the cool people of the school,” he retorted. He was starting to believe her about that crappy theory they couldn’t like each other because of their opposing powers. He never really liked those like her. They loved to patronize people and sound so much more important by telling them they should not be jerks to jerks. They were rarely better.
He didn't value control as much as she did but he too tried to recover it. Not on his power but his temper. He knew he needed more than anger to cast a ball of fire. He probably had enough fat stocked for a small one that would do a lot of damage but the effect on him was not worth the scare he would cause. “Yeah well, maybe you should chill down about it,” he grumbled, looking away from her. If she got this angry over what happened, he was glad they never trained together.

Olivia crossed her arms.
"It's your methods I'm unimpressed with. What the hell is taking friggin' pictures going to accomplish??? Seriously man, that's a wuss's way of payback." She shook her head.
"I may not be high in the hierarchy, but I'm high enough that I could get really creative with payback if I wanted. If one of the football team got pissy with me, for example, I'd shut them down the next time they ask me for a date. I can also come up with some really creative names. And the trick is to do it publicly and make points they can't argue with. Although arguably, that might be a girl's way of doing it because we seem to be people guys generally don't argue with. Which again, makes you a total anomaly." She arched a brow and rolled her eyes.
"I refuse to 'chill' about my control. I need my control, dumbass. Otherwise I'm never going to get my friggin' life on track."

Didn’t he just say the guy was some super strong one, the football Imma-crush-your-skull-with-my-bear-hands type? He thought he did point out the fact he was pretty small and weak in comparison. So what was she expecting, that he would try and hit him in the groin? “Not when you get pictures of the guy kissing a girl that isn’t his girlfriend, it isn’t,” he told her. Alright, he didn’t get that just yet but the guy could totally be making out with the entire cheerleading team right now and he was missing it because he had to justify himself to this girl. Obviously, this girl lacked imagination. When you didn’t have muscles, you had to be sly. He thought it was a good plan.
“I doubt he’ll ask me on a date,” he argued when she told him some of the things she could have done had she been in his place. He thought her ideas weren’t any better than his. He shrugged as she pointed him to be an anomaly. “That won’t be the only reason to call me that,” he let out, acting as if he didn’t care. He knew he was a bit of a creep. Assuming it gave him power, he thought.
He stared at her. He got a title for her too. Control freak. “I don’t control mine and you don’t see me losing it.”

"So you know for a fact he's a cheater? Or are you just following him around waiting for something that might not happen ever?" She arched a brow. When he mentioned that he wouldn't get asked on a date, she sighed.
"You think too small. If you were actually nice to people, they might help you out with revenge. For example, if you had been nice to...say...me...I might have helped you humiliate this guy. But I don't help jerks." She shrugged.
"As for the control thing...maybe you had a nice well-adjusted childhood that led you to not needing control. Not all of us had such a damn luxury."

Quinn avoided her stare as she asked him if he knew for a fact the guy was a cheater. Alright, maybe he didn't know for sure but it didn’t sound that insane. The guy obviously thought highly of himself so why couldn’t he think he was too good for one girl only? And even if he did not cheated on her, surely there was something else. The fact he was not meeting her stare sort of proved he didn’t know for a fact. That didn’t make his idea of a revenge any worse. Finding something humiliating and taking a picture of it, that was totally in his league.
He startled at her next words. “You would have helped me? You? I don’t even know your name,” he pointed out. Why would she want to help him, even if he had not been a jerk? The simple fact he wanted to humiliate someone would make him a jerk so basically she was just saying she would never have helped him.
He let out a dry laugh. To say he had a well-adjusted childhood was funny indeed. “Yeah, right. I had a super whacked up well-adjusted childhood,” he added to the laugh. Not that he felt like sharing bits of his life with her, or her from her part. She could keep her sad story to someone who cared. “Trying to get too much control can be just as bad as no control at all. But hey, if that’s how you want to be, be stressed out all you want, I don’t care.”

"It wouldn't matter to me. Names are just things we're addressed by. In the scheme of things, they really don't matter. What matters to me if whether someone's kind to me or not. You weren't, so I with-hold any help I could've given. Even if you're changing your tune now, it's too late. Maybe you'll learn next time." She shrugged.
"As for childhood and control...I'd rather have too much control than not enough. Makes up for the way I had to live as a kid. I figure it won't do too much damage."

Oh, so this girl didn't care about names. Or maybe she just didn’t care about his. He could not blame her, it wasn’t like he really was interested in knowing hers either. It wasn’t like he had someone to complain about this control freak who lashed out at him in the student lounge. “Whatever. It’s not like I wanted your help to begin with. We just happened to bump into each other and you were no kinder to me than I was to you,” he pointed out. Even if she was to argue he started it, he would still drag her down with him. She didn’t have to go mad over this. She could have simply called him a jerk and leave it at that but she had to lash out too.
“Yeah, right. No damage at all,” he said out of pure irony. “It just turns you into a monster the moment things barely start to go out of hands. But, hey, what do I know. It’s not like I would set things on fire just because I’m angry.” Was he making things worse by talking to her that way? Watch him not give a damn about it.

"No the reason I'm pissed at you isn't because I'm a control freak but rather because you're an asshole." Olivia crossed her arms and sighed, shaking her head.
"Ooh fire. So scary. So you're saying you should stay calm because you're dangerous. Why are you applying the same logic to me? I manipulate water. What am I gonna do, freeze someone? Give them a bath? The only one that would be scary for would be the cat wandering around campus." She rolled her eyes.

Quinn groaned. He probably rolled his eyes too. Alright, so she thought he was an asshole. Not like this was something new to him. Why should he care that some girl didn’t like him? He doubted she could make his life a living hell more than it already was. “You’re no ray of sunshine either,” he pointed out. If she was able to lash out like this only because someone talked to her with an attitude, he doubted she was all that popular around here. It was funny. He was the fire elemental one and he had a cold demeanor and she was the water manipulator and she had a hot temper. You’d think it was the other way around.
“What?” he let out as she talked. He wasn’t sure he got what she meant. Or maybe she was the one who didn't understand his words. Or both. “I meant, I only pissed you off a little and you blew a vase. What happens when someone really makes you mad, you drown them? My temper doesn’t affect my power and before you think water is bad for me, I really don’t care so don’t threaten me with it, it won’t work,” he told her. Maybe his words made more sense now. Either way, if she thought he could be like this cat wandering around campus she could scare with her power, obviously it wouldn’t work. “And my power is dangerous. You know what napalm is? I can do as much damage.” He was not threatening her. His tone was not implying that he could burn her. More that he too could be concerned about his ability sometimes. He just was not as much of a freak when it came to controlling his power.

Olivia thought about her answer to his supposition carefully.
"When I'm really pissed off at someone, my emotions shut off completely. People are safe. If I'm really angry, I don't feel anything and I retreat into myself. I'm not a danger." Her response was in a quiet voice. She gave him a weak smile before shrugging.
"I'm done fighting. If you want to be a jerk, you can live with that on your own." She turned around and started walking away. She was done talking to him. No reason to put herself through that torture any longer.

“Then what caused the vase to break? You said it was your emotions?” Quinn was lost here. Maybe she had not been ‘really’ angry then, just surprised and pissed. He still felt like it didn’t make sense as he assumed, from what she said, that her emotions made her lose control of her power. She admitted being a control freak who wanted to keep everything in line, including her emotions. Well, maybe she didn’t say it exactly that way but it was how he interpreted it. So he didn't get what she meant.
Normally, he wouldn’t care. After all, he didn’t care about the girl, he shouldn’t bother to ask questions regarding her power. She seemed to be tired to fight too and she intended to leave. He startled. First, because he should be the one leaving, not the other way around. And second... “Hey, what about that vase? You’re letting me clean up after you?”
Post by Olivia Chance on Mar 12, 2015 12:03:42 GMT -6
"Damn. The vase." She sighed, spinning on her heel. She went to the nearby cupboard and took out the brush and dustpan, walking back to the mess. He may be a jerk, but responsibility for her actions was totally ingrained in her and had been since she was small.
"Okay. Now you leave because I'm done talking with you, jerk. My emotions broke this vase because I wasn't able to get a handle on them quickly enough. They affected my powers and my powers froze the water inside the vase. But what you've seen? Totally not the most pissed I could be at you. Because in the end, you aren't really worth the time to get so worked up about." She shrugged.

Quinn had no intention to clean up the mess she made. He had no responsibility in it and even if one might argue he caused her power to go out of hand, he would still consider she was the one who should clean up. He didn't like being called a jerk. Who did? But Quinn also refused to let it show. She would not pierce through the thick shell he built around himself. He’ll vent later, when he’ll be alone, about the fact everyone seemed to think he was nothing but a jerk, and a creep, and not worthy of their time. He refused to let her see how these words could affect him.
“Whatever. Anyway, I can’t even remember why I bothered coming up here,” he let out on his most detached tone he could come up with, shrugging even to prove how little this affected him. It did not, but that was besides the point. He preferred to go, and not because she wanted him to, and think she should look at herself in the mirror before calling others jerk.

"You're just the naturally difficult sort, aren't you?" She swept all the pieces into the dustpan and stood up, walking to the nearest trashcan. Then she laughed.
"So long. Hope I won't see you too soon." With that, she walked in the opposite direction. In any other circumstance, if she hadn't been feeling so stubborn, they might have even ended up as friends. But not today, that was for sure.
