Quirking her brow, Alice looked at the other girl for a moment before a smirl found its way across her lips. She didn't see the need to respond though, but she could find the humor in Zoe's choice of words; After all, she was a "lady". Technically, anyways. But she had to admit though, that Zoe's attempt at being playful was rather cute.
"How so?" she asked, quirking a brow once again. She didn't see how she wasn't a vanilla type, or how a type of ice cream could define anyone at such an extent... Then again, Alice wasn't one who normally got the social terms. After all, she had sort of alienated herself from people and all their quirks. Well, until now anyways. "I suppose you're right with that."
Alice pursed her lips as she waited for Zoe to order her ice cream, her smile widening as the girl started picking things out. At her question about the cherry, the brunette nodded as a laugh rolled off her lips. "Yeah, pick whatever you want," she said, shrugging. It was like hanging around a gleeful child; Which oddly enough, struck the pixie as oddly adorable. It was odd because Alice normally found these types incredibly annoying... Like she did with her sister... But with Zoe?
No, everything about the girl was just... Cute. Refreshing. Lovable.
"I'll take one scoop of the pistachio and one tutti frutti," she said, gesturing towards the ice creams in front of her and offering the guy behind the stand something of strained smile and gave Zoe's hand a quick squeeze.

"Well, vanilla is just sort of," said Zoe, pausing for a moment while she fidgeted, "plain," she said, looking over at Alice and flushing for a moment. "You are most definitely not plan and, well, vanilla." Zoe nodded yet again, ordering her ice cream and so forth. She was soon ordering a cherry and fighting back the fluttering feelings she had in her chest.
Zoe watched while the other girl ordered, seeing the various scoops. "See that," she pointed, "suits you better. One part interesting, one part sweet, though I suppose it would be more two parts interesting to sweet or, well," she flushed, fidgeting for a moment. Yes, creative flirting wasn't really Zoe's thing, at least, not like that. She could wax poetic about someone's appearance or what have you though: she had plenty of practice with that. But flirting? Definitely not in her range.
Getting the ice cream certainly was, and they were handed over in cones, which let the girls continue holding hands. Wait... continue? Zoe had to look down, blinking slightly as she realized that Alice still held her hand. In fact, hadn't Alice just squeezed it? Zoe true her head back up, the question on her lips. She swallowed it at the last minute though, not wanting to say anything in front of the ice cream vendor. Instead, she opted to take a lick of her ice cream, enjoying the light flavor of the cotton candy.

Watching Zoe, Alice had a hard time holding back the growing smile that splayed over her lips. She actually felt honestly to god complimented. She wasn't plain. It was amazing how such a simple compliment could leave her feeling so... Happy and jittery. "Thank you," she said honestly, still looking at the other girl, her expression a mix between a smile and calmness.
She couldn't ever remembering quite feeling this way, which... Which was weird, since she didnæt really know the girl. It was so silly too, because they'd only known each other for a few days.
But... She couldn't really complain.
Laughing at her comment, Alice nodded, "Alright, I guess I'll agree with that. I'm definitely not sweet," she said, smirking as she gave Zoe's shoulder a playful bump. "That's more your thing; Guess we compliment each other nicely on that area," she added with a shrug. The idea of that though, gave her stomach butterflies and it filled her with warmth, which brought her back to her previous thoughts; Was this stupid? Of her to feel this way, this soon?
Accepting the ice cream as it was handed to her with a smile, she stepped out of the line, assuming that Zoe would follow, and if she didn't, she'd feel her hand getting janked at. Once outside of the line, she pointed towards the park, "Shall we?" she asked, pursing her lips as she lifted the ice cream to her lips. She did wonder though, as Zoe had pointed out that her ability could be potentially dangerous, but the effects seemed to be slower than what she had imagined and well.. Not nearly as bad. It did leave a lot of questions for sure.
"You said that your ability is dangerous, right? How fast does it generally work for other people? Like, an estimated time before it..." she furrowed her brows, "Well, I know we've been over this already, but from what you said before, I expected it to happen faster." She looked down at their interlocked hands, once against squeezing Zoe's hand.

"More... an acquired taste," replied Zoe, nodding. "Ah, that fits even better with your choices," she insisted, smiling a little. She'd blushed at the complimenting thing: she'd thought much the same thing, and it reminded Zoe of that earlier comment she'd made about how they could probably both use to learn a little from one another. she fought against the little swarm of butterflies, trying to bury them with a lick of ice cream.
Moving helped some too, as they both moved out of the ice cream line. Zoe took a few more cautious licks of her ice cream, pausing only as Alice spoke some of the same questions that Zoe had been mulling over aloud. The shy girl looked down at their hands. She hesitated for a moment, adjusting herself.
"Most people would be hospitalized by now," she admitted, speaking slowly, her lip going between her teeth to be chewed. "I... most people just don't... don't last this long," she ran her hand along Alice's, again marveling at it. Should she say that she really liked it? Holding hands like this? The constant contact made her feel almost... normal. She hadn't felt like that in ages, and it felt simply splendid. It also made her wonder if the same resistance would show other places... which immediately made Zoe think of kissing Alice.
Not that the shy girl would ever say as much. She would, however, wind up staring at Alice's lips for an extended period of time, sorely neglecting her ice cream and the conversation for those moments.

Thinking about it, it did make Alice wonder; What if her normal immunity to chemicals and the like was helping fight the effects of Zoe's ability off? "Well," she began, furrowing her brows as she paused, looking at the other girl for a moment. "My wings aren't my only ability," she confessed with something of a smile. "My wings produce hallucinogenic dust, and this dust is something that doesn't leave my system, so it makes me mostly immune to all... chemical products that affect my body or mind. Like, I have to drink a shitton of alcohol just to feel a slight affect and drugs probably wouldn't do anything at all."
She had never done drugs, so she didn't really know that for sure, but she figured it counted.
"Maybe that has something to do with..." she looked down at their arms for a moment, a smile tugging at the corner of her lips before she shrugged and lifted the ice cream to her lips, savoring in the delicious taste of it.
It was interesting to think about that, if not even a little ironic just how well the two of them seemed to be matched. Her brown eyes fell upon their interlocked hands again. "Either way, guess you don't have to worry too much about your ability with me then, huh," she smirked.

Zoe looked back to Alice's face as the other girl explained her ability or, more accurately, explained the secondary part of said ability. Zoe vaguely recalled hearing about abilities like that before, and tried to remember if anyone had said anything specifically about Alice's. She couldn't think of anything, but she did have to agree with what Alice said.
The problem then was smothering the little bit of hope that flared up at it. Zoe had more or less convinced herself that she wouldn't be able to touch people again, at least, not without extensive medicines and what have you. She had those, but she'd still been concerned, worried that they might not work as they should. Now though, now she seemed to have another possibility.
"That's---that's really quite nice," she said, trying to keep her voice at least somewhat calm. She gave their hands a squeeze, readjusting her grip. "It's odd, really. I didn't care as much about physical contact before my ability made it so I couldn't. Now I practically crave it," she smiled slightly sadly, running a hand along Alice's for a moment.
Zoe seemed to realize that she'd likely started getting too personal again, which resulted in some blushing and turning her full attentions on the ice cream and the park around her and pretty well anything that wasn't Alice and their joined hands.

Nodding, Alice looked at the girl -- at Zoe -- for a moment before nodding again. "People often want what they can't have, and the saying 'you don't know what you have until it's gone' counts for a lot more than what people think it does," she sighed. Shaking her head then, she lifted her free hand and ran it through her dark hair. Her brown eyes rested upon Zoe's face before cracking into a smile.
"So, I guess you can't really be blamed for that." It was odd. Normally, Alice would have told the girl to stop whining, but now... she didn't. She didn't want to.
It felt odd.
Lifting the ice cream back to her lips, Alice tried her best focusing on that rather than the hilarity of how well their powers actually matched up. It seemed almost a little... Fixed. It was ironic, in a way, and not something Alice ever would have expected. She had never cared much for her ability, mostly because it didn't fit her at all, but now... She was actually happy she had this kind of power.
And that made her feel incredibly sappy, which made her want to yell at herself.

"That's probably it," agreed Zoe, nodding along to Alice's explanation. "Though I have to admit," she smiled, the expression a touch coy, "it's much nicer touching some people than others."
It was at that moment that Zoe realized that she really wanted to kiss Alice. She was tempted to ask, to lean forward and lightly kiss the other girl. Wouldn't Alice appreciate the initiative? she seemed to before, and Zoe's last girlfriend... no, Zoe couldn't start thinking about her last girlfriend. Girlfriend: they certainly weren't at that point. This was just a date, a date that was going well.
Zoe took another lick of her ice cream, and then, feeling that she should respond to her caprice in some manner, she leaned over and took a quick lick of Alice's, almost purposefully getting an area that the other girl had licked moments before. She swallowed it and then grinned wide, clearly pleased with herself.
"It just looked tasty," she insisted, before taking another lick of her own. "Besides, I think it may be a taste I want to acquire,' another smile, one that made her expressive brown eyes dance. She was flushing though, flushing and ready to look away. She really shouldn't be this flirty, should she? No, no, she needed to stop second guessing herself. But would she still be her if she did that? Was a confident Zoe still Zoe? Ack, too many questions. She should have just settled for kissing Alice. That probably would have ended the date then and there.
