At least Frank tried to help with the whole removing the rope from her ankle thing. True, Frank's help might not really qualify as help in the strictest sense, but the girl's heart was in the right place (located just in her chest and/or in the friendship zone, depending on when/if you happened to ask her). She let out another giggle as she sort of flipped down onto her feet. The feet thing only lasted for a few moments before Frank fell back hard on her butt, making the ground crunch.
"Oh, I'm totally cool!" she said, waving a hand and grinning to indicate just how very fine she happened to be. She added a few bobs of her head too. "Stuff like this happens to me all the time: I'm totes used to--hey, it's the raccoon! Man, he does not look happy," Frank watched as Tam released the critter. She seemed to vaguely recall their saying that they weren't going to release him until they got deeper into the woods, but maybe Tam had spotted his family or something.
"Well, that was fun!" said Frank, turning to look back at Tam, grinning wide. She rose up to her feet, dusting herself off, making sure to focus on her butt, which had been the part touching the ground for the most part, after all. "Soooooo, are you gonna, like, punish me for getting caught in a trap and catching a raccoon or something?" she asked, sounding downright cherubic as she spoke. No that this would be the first time Frank got in trouble... or the last... on this camping trip...

For once, Tam was glad it was Frank that she was caught with. Because any other student might actually not take the whole hanging-by-a-foot-to-falling-to-the-ground really well. Frank however was almost laughing about it. Soon, she’ll ask to do it all over again. It was a lot better than one whining they must have broken something or could have died or that it took too long and their head was spinning or whatever else someone might say. And yes, Tam was well aware she would have fallen in that category of people. Like most human beings, she didn't particularly like to hang upside down by one foot. Since Frank didn’t seem injured, it was one less thing to worry about.
The raccoon was not happy, alright. If being caught in a small box was not bad enough, being thrown all around just put an end to the patience this animal could have. In a way, Tam could understand the creature. And since it was not trying to attack them or to go back to the camp, she decided not to care about it anymore. Had it tried to head towards the camp, she probably would have used a hologram. It was a raccoon, it clearly was not intelligent enough to understand it was just some manipulation of light to create an image. It would run the other way, where it ran.
She turned her attention back on Frank. The girl was on her feet and didn’t seem dizzy or in pain. She had her infamous grin on as she asked the big question. Tam paused, not even sure of the answer herself. She couldn’t punish her for getting caught in a trap, although she could for setting it up in the first place. Catching the raccoon and handing it to Tam was also a smart move when you think about it even though she first thought throwing it in one of the boys’ cabins. Dilemma, dilemma... “Not this time. But you better warn people about your traps so they are being careful. And if someone gets caught, this time you will be,” she said. She thought she was being way too kind. She still needed to tell the others about her traps. Since she couldn’t remember where she set them, she just had the proof of that, she wouldn’t be useful to them so she figured addressing the matter to her any further was pointless. “Come on, let's head back to the camp," she said. Before I change my mind, she thought.

"Awesome! I knew you'd be awesome and all. I can totally tell these things! Oh, what was your name again? Like, Suly or something? Oh, oh, oh, is it Sulu? Is your name Sulu? Because that would be awesome," and was now likely stuck in Frank's mind forever. she picked up the box and practically skipped till she was walking alongside the older woman. "I will totally tell everyone about the traps and junk, Miss Sulu. Promise. Except Bigfoot 'cuz, obviously I'ma catch me him. And it will be epic."
Frank nodded, then shifted to hug the box to her chest, sighing and stroking it a few times. "If only I had a psychic raccoon to help me. Alas, he had to return to his family. Waaaaaaaiiit a second: how did you know that, Miss Sulu? Do you have magical raccoon powers?" Which was possible, given the whole mutant thing. That wouldn't technically be magic, of course, but Frank obviously wasn't one to split hairs. She was giving Tam the evil eye as they headed back to the camp, obviously having all but forgotten what they'd come out there to do in the first place.

Tam thought she was fair and actually amongst the lenient ones at school, so she always found it ironic to be treated like a fascist or whatever. Because the others might have been so much worse on their ass. She would not let them break the rules, of course. But, if you take what was going on with Frank right now, there was no point in lecturing her. At least she knew there were traps and Tam intended to have a look around. She didn’t like the extra work and meant to force Frank to help her with it. That would be punishment enough. For both of them.
“It’s Sulik,” she pointed out when Frank told her she always knew she was awesome only to ask her name afterwards. She knew her name was not English but she didn’t consider it that hard to understand and remember. She sighed as Frank decided it was Sulu instead. She didn’t feel like arguing. But she better not go around the camp calling her Miss Sulu.
Tam stopped at the girl’s words. She didn’t like the tone, it was the premise to something ominous. As expected, Tam ended up with the raccoon’s psychic power. If it was more plausible for her to have a power than the raccoon itself, it was not hers and she wanted the girl to say that even less than to call her Miss Sulu all around. “I only thought it would be safer to let it go right now. It didn’t like the bungee ride” she said. She hoped Frank would leave it there. She didn’t want to end up caught in her hunt for Bigfoot just because she was a psychic or something. “And I suggest you leave the animals in the forest where they belong. I don’t think they want to join your hunt,” she warned her. How much longer until they all went back to school?

So there might have been another name in there that might have had significantly more to do with the teacher's actual name as opposed to whatever nonsense came out of Frank's mouth from one moment to the next. She couldn't say for certain. Mostly because the monitor had already been labeled in Frank's mind and that was pretty much how it worked.
There was some prancing about too, Frank's energy obviously having only flagged slightly from being upside down. She had started digging about, producing an energy bar from her pockets. The girl didn't bother to unwrap it, but simply bit the top off and began chewing with great gusto. Frank nodded vigorously as Miss Sulu--- totally didn't explain the raccoon power thing.
"Well, actually, the raccoon got to me first, Miss Sulu," said Frank, nodding and gesturing with the power bar. "I was totes minding my own business and he was all up in my junk being 'wazzzzzuuup?' and all. But I'm, like, not out for animals. just Bigfoot. wait," Frank paused to bite between, then pushed her food into a cheek, allowing her to talk with her usual grace and aplomb, "he's not like an animal, is he? I mean, he's all intelligent and stuff," Frank took another bite of her food, then took a few more skipping steps toward the camp before turning.
'Was there something else we needed to talk about, Miss Sulu? Or is it all thrusters engaged, full speed ahead?"

“Sulik,” Tam said, barely listening to what Frank had to say after she butchered her name again. Why was she fixated on Sulu? Especially after she corrected her. Then again, it wouldn’t be the first time a student did not listen to her. You’d think Frank would listen, as she kind of asked for her name to begin with, but the girl had chosen another one for her and Tam found herself struggling to get her true name back.
Once she had decoded Frank’s comment, someone should write a dictionary to make the translation easier, she seemed to get a better understanding of what happened. Not that she was very surprised about it. It made sense that the raccoon decided to get into the cabin in search for food. It was best out of here though as it could be dangerous. It might not be a fox, a wolf or a bear but she preferred not to fight a raccoon. Especially because of the silliness of it. She did wait and pause as Frank said so, almost fearing what new thing she might come up with. She was actually relieved all she did was talk of the raccoon as an intelligent creature. “Frank, your raccoon is probably off chopping the head of frogs before soaking them in the water and eating them. He’s an animal and he’s better out there than with us,” she told her with all the serious she could muster. Which was already a lot more than Frank could ever show in a lifetime.
At first, she didn't get Frank’s joke. She was not really a Trekkie after all, not like anyone could accuse her of being one. But since Chris Pine was now Kirk, there was no surprise she knew Star Trek a little more. It was then that she realized the connection with Sulu. Damn, she didn’t seriously compared Tam to that Asian guy, right? “It’s Sulik. You know what, just go for Tamara,” she said. Anything but Star Trek joke, please.

"The raccoon's a murderer? I should've known! There was that one movie with the one raccoon with the gun shooting people and he didn't even have psychic powers. Maybe we should warn somebody or---well, I guess they are just animals and that is kinda what animals do," Frank paused for a moment, pondering. This pause allowed Tam to correct Frank on the name (again), even offering her first name as some sort of appeasement.
Appeasement rarely worked with Frank. Plus she had the whole selective listening thing going on.
"copy that, Miss Sulu," said Frank, bobbing her head again. She snapped off a salute, then giggled. "Well, I'm gonna go finish getting everything unloaded and junk. If I run into anything else that's all suspicious and groaty or whatever, I'll make sure to let you know!' Then Frank turned, wiggling her fingers as she practically skipped her way back to her cabin, determined to get things back in order and more or less forgetting just about everything that happened.
At least until she saw another camper, who would likely be warned of the dangers of psychic, murderous raccoons.

Tam couldn’t believe it. She talked to Frank, told her her name, said she could call her Tamara if she preferred. The girl did seem to understand what she said, she even told Tam that she got it. Yet, she still called her Sulu. She gave up. It was a good thing she didn’t listen to the girl as she talked of Rambo Raccoon shooting people in the face and all. That girl must have lived in a big city all of her life or something. Tam came from a small, rural town. She was used to animals. And she had seen enough raccoons to consider them pests you had to keep away from you, not a little pet you could tag along because they had psychic powers. No, best not bring the psychic powers.
She sighed heavily but was actually glad that Frank wanted to leave. She’ll roam around the camp to find her traps, hoping not to find them the way she did. “Alright, you can go. But you warn people about the traps,” she told her even though she was certain the girl would not do it. Or say it in such a cryptic way they won’t understand. She will probably mention the psychic yet psycho raccoon too and that will just get everyone lost for good. Tam watched her go than looked at the woods. Great, it will be a piece of cake. She was so thrilled about this.
