Guy shrugged at the comment regarding his masculinity, though he made certain to add verbalization this time: "I don't particularly think I need to, but it's always quite fun to do so." He grinned as he finished, then continued watching as Maya worked her way across the shop, coming up with a few more that sounded a little more to the modern taste.
"Those do look like excellent choices," agreed Guy, nodding, "and yes, it is a her... actually, though I'm sure you're going to mentally growl at me, I think I'll pick up one of those Babysitter's Club books too. Nothing says I can't get three and be done with it," he nodded, then moved back to where the previous books had been, picking one without as much help. Though he did have to pick a lower one, read the title, and sigh.
"Well, it looks like I can't quite reach the ones that are closer to the beginning," he said, sounding amused by the whole experience. "I don't suppose you have a step-ladder around here?" he looked, figuring that it was entirely possible. If she had one, Maya would know right where she'd placed it: after all, she moved through her shop with practiced ease.

Maya laughed quietly as she picked out the books she thought would be well-received by the little girl.
Him wanting to pick up the Babysitters Club series had her chuckling with a shrug. "Who am I to judge?"
At the query for a stepladder, Maya tried to find one of the workers nearby via her abilities before calling her out. "Mandy, could you please bring the stool over here?"
Not a second later, a mousy girl came over with a stool before hurrying off with a small nod towards Guy.

Guy chuckled in response before moving along to collect the variuos books. Maya got out the stepladder or, more accurately, called an assistant forth to do so. Guy waited patiently, smiling and nodding to the young woman as she approached. With that help provided, Guy soon found himself holding the three books. True, he did have to move along for a bit in order to do so, but he managed easily enough, once things were arranged and what have you.
The girl processed Guy's order, with his reminding her to use the discounts that he'd agreed upon with Maya. Soon enough, he had the presents in hand. He offered a thanks to the girl, then gave one to Maya. As Guy headed out, he made a promise not to be as much of a stranger, though he knew full well that it was probably a false one. Not that he intended to lie or anything, but it was one of those meetings between people that used to know each other and had grown apart for whatever reason and had more or less opted to stay that way. it was highly unlikely that they would ever meet again.
Such was life, sometimes, and so it was then. Though still, that didn't stop the two of them from playing their respective roles.
