When the girl finally asked what exactly he was trying to do with her, Scott couldn't help but laugh. So maybe she wasn't a gullible little kid after all. There was hope for her yet.
"Yeah, I figured you could but uh...let's take a break. Get some corndogs. You've eaten corndogs before haven't you?" Scott asked skeptically. After all she had been saying and doing, he wouldn't really be surprised if she didn't even know what they were.
Demi glared at the guy, holding it as he laughed. Yeah, definitely not a good thing. She was seriously thinking about punching him somewhere that she knew it would hurt. His privates jumped out almost immediately.
However, he kept going, talking about a break and... corndogs. Demi had to pause again, staring at him. Corn...dogs? She knew exactly what jumped to her mind first: it involved canines shaped like ears of corn. She seriously doubted that such a thing existed though, so this was probably one of those things like the bucks or something along those lines. That definitely made more sense.
"Sure," she said, shrugging and trying to sound nonchalant, "I've totally uh... eaten them before. Loads of times. Love them. So let's go get them already." And Demi started walking, not even caring if she was headed the right direction or not. She could always say she was testing him when the guy said they were going the wrong way.

If Demi managed to hurt him anywhere on his person, she was sure to find a big fat hundy in her pocket. Not that Scott actually knew she was thinking of it.
Nor did he know what exactly was running through her mind as the corndogs were mentioned. He would have howled with laughter had he known what she thought.
As she walked in the wrong direction, Scott sidestepped so if she collided into him, he could turn her around so they walked in the right direction. Once that happened, he introduced himself. "Scott O'Riley by the way. Bellefonte student. I'm assuming you are one too?" He raised an eyebrow.

Demi noted the side-step and she turned as he more or less started to do so. Demi turned without giving the slightest hint of noticing that she'd been going the wrong way, and she certainly didn't acknowledge Scott's turning or anything along those lines. As far as she was concerned, she'd been going this way the whole time.
"Demi," she replied, looking back and up at him, "and I guess I'm one of their students. It's more like one of their captives," she snorted and then looked around again, squinting into the distance. "Where are the stupid dog things anyway? Should we be, uh, looking for a... stand or something," she'd pretty well plucked that out of no where. Or, well, nearly out of no where: she'd seen several stands around and it wasn't exactly rocket science to guess that they probably got everything from stuff like that around here.
Which was... actually smart, as far as Demi was concerned. And the fact that these idiots could do anything smart almost floored her.

Chuckling at the little girl's nonchalance, Scott shrugged and kept on walking. No use trying to make fun of her. She would just retaliate and then he would be arguing with a toddler. No use.
The fact that she thought she was a captive made sense to Scott. Although he himself felt that BA was sanctuary, he could understand the disdain some of the other students felt being trapped there against their own will. Especially someone like Demi.
"It's right there." Scott responded to her question, pointing towards the stand with the giant cutout of an anthropomorphic corndog holding a corndog. He walked over and asked for two. After paying for it, he handed one over to Demi befoe biting into his own.
"Tell me more about your captivity over at Bellefonte."

Right over... Demi's head swiveled in the direction her companion pointed. She snorted before walking her way over there, stomping along. There were a few moments of impatient waiting while the guy paid for things, then she took it. Demi had to stare for a few moments, craning her neck to look at it. It, well, it actually looked more or less like some kind of bread on a stick or something. So the dog must be inside it then?
Just as Demi was about to take a bite and experiment, Scott asked his question. She looked up at him, her gaze skeptical, her mouth twisting into a slight smirk. "You really want to know?" she said. her eyebrows bunched. "Because you're just going to be all like 'they aren't actually holding you captive and it's a great place and the people here are just so wonderful. We even sit around and make daisy chains!'"
Demi batted her eyes for a few seconds before letting out a decidedly unladylike snort. She took an almost vicious bite of her corndog. It immediately started burning her mouth, and she felt her eyes watering. Demi blinked, trying to hide the tears, and not allowing any other sign of the fact that something steaming hot had just entered her mouth show outside of that.

Brown eyes were narrowed as Demi started to blabber about some inconsequential thing Scott didn't believe. Although he personally believed Bellefonte Academy was a great place simply because it was a sanctuary away from home, he wasn't blind to the fact that the people there were basically captives.
He wasn't going to say that obviously. He wanted to know what she thought. For some reason, she just intrigued him. And she was definitely amusing.
"Tell me more about your captivity over at Bellefonte." He repeated with a smirk. Which only deepened when he realised she was tearing up because of the corndog.
He bit into his, the heat not bothering him just yet. Sensations worked into him a lot slower than some.

Demi gave the guy a skeptical look as he continued, which was sort of hard to do, what with the tears still forming in her eyes and stuff. Still, Demi was made of pretty stern stuff, and that pretty stern stuff made it quite easy for her to do things like look skeptical. So she did so with great gusto.
She chewed. Chewed, and then thoroughly enjoyed her chewing. Swallowed, then actually withdrew the stick from her mouth, having left the section that had so recently been within as bare as a gnawed bone. "They've taken me here against my will," she said, speaking slowly at first but picking up as soon as she continued. "They took me from my family and lots of people keep saying they're going to shove me in some kind of cell or something under the stupid school. They just took me! Right from--okay, so my people were kind of willing to work with them, but that's just because they had to! The school has a lot more people then us, which is just kinda stupid because we obviously have it loads better then you idiots do here and all."
she paused to take a breath, clearly getting worked up as she continued: "and they keep siccing this stupid water person on me. She washes my protective layer off," she held up an arm, shaking it a bit, letting the dirt and dust bounce. "And it sucks. The people here are just sucky and stupid and--- I hate them,' there, she ended by sticking the corndog into her mouth.

Holding back his laughter, Scott had to purse his lips and shake his head at Demi's controlled pain. The look she gave him was just slightly constipated.
Scott actually listened as the younger mutant spoke about her captivity. He wasn't sure how genuine his interests were just yet but somehow, oddly enough, he listened without zoning out.
The way he saw it, she was picked up by Bellefonte without protest from her guardians. But the whole bit about the hydrokinetic was a bit strange. Scott had always thought the place was full of happy go lucky people who wanted to maintain peace.
"Okay." Scott nodded, biting into his corndog. "You haven't attacked any of them have you?"

The question made Demi blink. "Well, yeah, of course," she said, pretty much just figuring that it was a gimme. "How else are you supposed to tell if someone's strong? Besides, they've been, like, holding me against my will and stuff," and Demi just pretty much fought with everyone. Fighting had become almost a way of her communicating with the outside world: it worked with just about everyone she met. That and it was fun.
Scowling now, Demi took another bite of her corndog, taking some of her anger out on the admittedly delicious treat.

Scott shook his head in amusement, chuckling at the nerve of this girl. She clearly had more cajones than most boys her age. Hell she had bigger balls than he did. As much hell he caused outside of school, he wouldn't dare do anything stupid in school. Of course his reasons for not wanting to get in trouble in school was very personal.
"Hey hey, go easy on the dog. What'd it do to you?" He chuckled before stopping walking. "You want another one?"

Demi took another savage bite out of the corn dog, possibly consuming a little more of it than was strictly necessary. The heat had mostly seeped out of it, so she could do so without really harming herself or anything. She locked eyes with him the whole time she chewed, challenging him to say something else about her eating habits.
Then she heard the offering. She paused. She looked toward the stand. She shifted her feet. She took the stick out of her mouth.

Far be it for him to judge someone from how and what they ate considering his own habit of cooking and consuming when he got bored. In addition to his almost never satisfied cravings due to his ability draining him even when he didn't use it.
When the kid finally responded, he smirked and jerked his head towards the stand and started walking towards it. "Come on. We'll bring some to eat back at school." Scott offered, not really knowing why he was spending this much time with a kid. Thankfully they looked like they could pass off as siblings so there weren't any weird looks being passed.
"So did they let you out of your cage for good behaviour?" Scott asked teasingly.

Back to the stands; okay, Demi could go along with that. she shrugged and followed, trying not to look too eager. In point of fact, she'd thoroughly enjoyed the corn dog and it took all she had not to run toward it. Demi didn't exactly have much in the way of money, not beyond what the guy had already given her, so she hadn't quite actively gone around buying thigns.
"You owe me, like, a few," she said, looking up at Scott. "Do you know if they--" but she didn't finish, the words dying as Scott teased her. That got Demi to adopt her usual expression: an annoyed and angry glare.
"It's more the reverse. They said that I should get out and that maybe doing so would make me more obedient or something. I don't know. They're all stupid," she wrinkled her nose and looked back. "Now are we gonna get more corn dogs or what? I could eat at least, like, five," actually, she figured three, but she wanted to see if she couldn't get a few more to squirrel away. Demi was still having troubles figuring out how the whole food thing worked here, after all.

"I owe you huh?" Scott smirked and turned to the vendor, holding up both his hands to indicate how many pieces of corn dogs he wanted. The vendor looked to him and then to Demi before chuckling and moving out of Scott's sight.
Demi's answer had a tinge of anger but Scott still had his infuriating smirk on, unfazed by her anger. Hell, if she were to use her powers on him in retalation, he would still find it amusing. Little kids and anger were quite the comical combination.
"You're going to prove them wrong, aren't you." Scott asked rhetorically. "Hush, we'll need to wait. He probably didn't expect to serve a hungry little munchkin so early into the evening."
