Okay, so Beau definitely didn't want to be messing around with Devyn's powers. He made note of that and very subtly attempted to shoo the shadows away. It more or less worked, and it probably helped that Beau had just as quickly focused on music and on the whole conversation thing. Hard to think about wrapping yourself in shadow when you were busy plunking a tune on a piano and thinking about an upcoming tryout that you were putting yourself through, after all.
Bad people who would hurt, Beau nodded; he couldn't disagree with that. "But who's sayin' that the people they're hirin' are all gonna be bad? Could jus' be people that don't know no better. I'm bettin' that some of the folks from my hometown ain't gonna be thrilled 'bout the whole mutant thing..." Beau trailed off. He still visited his home when he could manage, and he got the same reception most of the time. Everyone knew he was at boarding school, and they just thought that was the fanciest thing. It probably helped that Beau was in Montana though, which was about as Southern as a Northern state could get.
The talk of Zoe got his attention off his family though. Girls usually did that too the poor guy. Devyn seemed to definitely be defending his girlfriend, which Beau could definitely understand. He didn't know the girl, hadn't met her, but he still wagered that Devyn's version of the story was more accurate than what that damn blogger posted. Another thanks, with Beau nodding, knowing full well what had gotten Devyn worked up and that it didn't have anything to do with Beau.
The next bit did though: "uh, yeah," admitted Beau, moving his fingers awkwardly above the keys and smiling bashfully, "sorry 'bout that. Mostly handed that off to the teacher who was there; she was a girl, so I figured she'd know better how to handle that..." Beau trailed off. It wasn't like he'd seen anything sexy or anything like that...
