POWER INFO:
Ethan has the ability to mute everyone closer to him than 5 meters ( = 16ft 4in) solely through a telepathic command. This can be one person or a whole group, whereas the whole group has to be within those 5 meters of reach. When he mutes a person, the person gets a sore throat and is unable to make any sound seconds after, even though the mouth can still be moved.
SIDEEFFECTS&LIMITATIONS:
- Ringing in his ears, might go deaf for a few minutes when holding up for too long
- Exhaustion&possible loss of consciousness after holding it up for over 30 min
- headache
- power can be used for max. 4 hours, after that Ethan needs to "recharge" for at least half an hour (the time limit is regardless of how many people he mutes at the same time)
- power can be used on max. 5 people at the same time
- he has difficulties controlling who is muted when more than one person is in his reach
GENERAL APPEARANCE:
Ethan stature looks, all things considered, pretty ordinary and neither from height nor from width outstanding in either way, which also goes for his rather indigenous and simple dress-code. However, his face is pretty memorable, as he has unusual green eyes and is hardly ever to meet without a smile. In addition his positive attitude towards people and life itself can easily be seen by looking at his smile or the vivid gestures he uses when talking, as well as the constant warm and welcoming look of his eyes.

PERSONALITY:
Despite his rather sad past Ethan has an incredible positive, optimistic and happy personality. As his foster mother always tried to teach him he appreciates what he’s got and sees the good in anything and anyone. Even though he himself could never hurt anyone, he doesn’t judge people who do either and tries his best to understand them and their motives, as he knows what effects the past and other people can have on a person.
This also makes him a very patient and easy forgiving person, who accepts people the way they are and believes that people can change to the better solely through feeling good about themselves as well as understood and cared about by other people.
However being so overly positive (and romantic) makes him pretty awkward as well, as he struggles to understand sarcasm and won’t let people push him away; Once he got attached to someone he won’t leave them alone anytime soon, especially if he feels the need to help them- no matter what that person thinks about that. Also he is easy to fool and won’t defend himself against any form of harassment, which makes him an easy, but boring prey for bullies.
In conclusion you could say Ethan is a very loving and positive, but at the same time very naive and awkward character, who goes through life full-hearted and holding his ground no matter what happens.

Ethan had a very complicated past; His parents died in a car crash shortly after he turned three years old and he and his brother got put into two separate families, as no one would take both of them together. Simon’s family was a poor, but loving one, who couldn’t afford to take both of them in, while Ethan’s family-foster mother Clary and foster father James- was pretty wealthy but broken inside, as James had abusive traits. He used to come home after his work drunk and command Clary around, hitting her if she wouldn’t obey, reasoning all of this by saying she was his as he paid for everything and made it possible for her to act, which, in his eyes, wasn’t a real job at all. Still Clary did her best to take care of Ethan and tried to raise him to a decent person, teaching him to be happy about what he had rather than whining about what he had lost. During this hard time at his foster family Ethan always kept contact to Simon, never telling him how bad the situation was though, as he didn’t want him to be concerned. However Simon does know about Ethan’s mutant-powers and gives him the best support possible no matter what Ethan is up to and even speaks up for mutants in general.
Ethan's mutant powers manifested shortly after his 17th birthday when he muted his foster father screaming at his foster mother, but as neither of the family expected it to be Ethan who caused it, they were pretty suprised when two staff member from the BelleFonte Academy visited to recruit him just a few weeks later. Even though Ethan hated his foster father and had been looking forward to leave this "home" as soon as he could, he hesitated to take this offer, since he didn't want to leave his foster mother alone. She, on the other hand, told him to take this opportunity as long as he wouldn't forget her and would keep in mind what she tried to teach him over all those years.
Now Ethan still has close contact with Clary through letters and annual meetings and gives his best to live his life the way she always wanted him to.
