Selina climbed up the tree with her backpack slung over one shoulder and got about midway up before pulling out her Algebra book and deciding to get her limited homework done. Yes, she had taken summer school, and yes it was a basic math class. She’d figured she’d get it out of the way so she wouldn’t have to stress over it during her full semesters. She wasn’t horrible at math, but she certainly wasn’t much good at it either, so taking it alone also helped her focus purely on what she needed to get done.
Selina placed her light backpack on the branch next to her and sat with her legs crossed in front of her on the wide branch of the lovely tree she’d found previously in the year. It was one of her favorite places to come and find some peace and quiet. Not many came out this way, and if they did, they certainly didn’t think to look up, so she hadn’t yet been disturbed by unwanted visitors. Not that she solely came here to avoid people. For today, she simply wanted a place to work that was different from the library and her own room.
Selina flicked an errant spider off of her branch and placed her math book in front of her, with a notebook on her lap. She was deep in her own world of balancing equations and figuring out the more complex polynomial problems when she paused and looked around. She could have sworn she’d heard something. Selina looked down in brief surprise when she heard it again below her, and was surprised to find someone not only in the area, but also attempting to climb her tree. She studied the boy in slightly amused interest. Well, this was definitely unexpected, though not necessarily unwelcome.
“What brings you to my humble abode?” she asked with a teasing smile, hoping she wouldn’t startle him or cause him to lose his balance.
